Welcome to my new blog. (A girl can't read and write email all the time...)
In this space, I will muse on the world of kidlit and libraries, of resources and mindfulness, of what-ifs and whatnots. Today I will also launch a Facebook Live program--Coffee With Deb | Booktalks to Go. It does occur to me that I will not be having coffee if I'm talking to you. No matter. I was supposed to be in Rhode Island today, talking about my favorite books for 2019. I decided I would go online and talk. (I'll also write a post-Live post here, just in case you miss it.)
Early this morning, my brain began to connect the dots and wonder--what if? So, I slipped out of bed and went to the Boho Basement (my home office). I wanted to know if I could use my Ipevo to show parts of a book. I learned that I can use Facebook Live to share my screen, use my visual presenter and also use my webcam. I can also set it up, advertise and more.
So since it's Tuesday, I thought Tissues Book Tuesday--Books that Might Make You Cry. So the books will be sad, or heart-warming, but I'm ending with a book that makes you laugh until you cry. (Don't you want to know what it is???)
I hope you'll enjoy the booktalks. My thought is to support our authors and illustrators without reading the whole book. These talks are for parents, teachers, and librarians. My plan is to find a theme, share some books and then in the comments post some resource links. I think it's also a good opportunity to remind all of you novel-teachers that you can do some pretty amazing teaching with picture books as well. (Almost) anything you can teach with a chapter book you can teach with a picture book--just faster. You can even use an audiobook excerpt or a book trailer.
Let me encourage you to use these booktalks to build your shopping lists for your vendors and independent bookstores. Get a public library card and read some of them in ebook or audiobook format. Use them with your students or families.
Will I do it every day? I don't know. I do know that I'm missing Mac Barnett's Read Alouds on Instagram by having it at 3 my time. I may have to change that. He's been a bright spot in my sheltered days. Good thing it's recorded. Maybe I'll watch that when I have time to drink my coffee. See you at 3PM Eastern on Facebook.
